What Is Concrete Leveling?
Concrete leveling — also called concrete lifting, slab jacking, polyjacking, or foam jacking — is the process of raising a settled slab back to its original grade. At Knoxville Concrete Lifting, we use high-density polyurethane foam injected through small holes drilled in the slab.
The foam expands beneath the concrete, filling voids and lifting the slab. The holes are patched, and the surface is ready for use within minutes. There's no demolition, no curing time, and no heavy equipment tearing up your yard.
What Is Concrete Replacement?
Replacement involves breaking out the old slab, hauling it away, preparing the base, pouring new concrete, and waiting for it to cure. For a driveway, this typically takes 3 to 7 days. For a pool deck or large patio, it can take longer.
Replacement makes sense when the concrete is structurally failing — severe cracking, spalling, or deterioration that can't be repaired cosmetically. It also makes sense if the design needs to change, such as widening a driveway or reconfiguring a patio.

Why Replacement Doesn't Always Fix Settlement

Unless the contractor also addresses compaction, drainage, and voids, your new slab will eventually settle the same way the old one did.
Polyurethane leveling, by contrast, fills voids and densifies the soil beneath the existing slab. It treats the cause of the settlement, not just the symptom.
